Hui Yu, 3rd year student, attended the NASA Summer Student Program at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory. This program helps to provide a “pipeline” of researchers to tackle need for scientists to study the dangers space travelers face from deep-space radiation — and how to best shield them against these risks. The program is co-sponsored by Brookhaven Lab, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and Universities Space Research Association, a consortium of universities, research organizations, and governmental groups involved in space research.
Eleven of the sixteen presentations at the Young Investigators' Symposium at the Spring 2008 meeting of the Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine on April 18th in Austin, TX were delivered by UTHSCSA Radiological Sciences graduate students. The following UTHSCSA students won prizes for their presentations:
- 1st place: Courtney Buckey, Dosimetric Comparison of Prostate Treatment Modalities
- 2nd place: Patricia Tynan, Use of BEAMnrc and DOSXYZ to Model Electron Fields Shaped with a Photon Multileaf Collimator for Modulated Electron Radiotherapy
- 3rd place: Teboh Roland, Measurement and Derivation of Geometric Error Distribution for a Real Time 4D Tracking Radiotherapy System
- 4th place: Drosoula Giantsoudi, Dosimetric Considerations of Cf-252 Brachytherapy Source

Tricia Tynan, 3rd year student, presented a talk entitled, "Use of BEAMnrc and DOSXYZnrc to Model Modulated Electron Beams Delivered Through a Photon Multileaf Collimator" at the International Nuclear Codes Workshop/MCNEG held in Warrington, Cheshire, UK, February 3-6, 2008.
Cynthia Munoz, 4th year student, presented a talk entitled, "Method to Validate the Dosimetric Accuracy of Synchrony Using a CIRS Dynamic Phantom" at the Cyberknife User's Meeting held in Scottsdale, AZ, January 23-27, 2008.
In December, 2007 the Graduate Program in Radiological Sciences received official notification that its accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, Inc. (CAMPEP) has been extended through December 31, 2012. CAMPEP is a nonprofit organization, which offers specialized accreditation of medical physics educational programs such as degree-granting programs, clinical residencies, continuing education and short courses. In some instances, CAMPEP accreditation of a program may permit students to receive funding in the form of scholarships, loans or grants.
The Graduate Program in Radiological Sciences held its Fourth Bi-Annual Retreat on August 18th , 2007 in the Nursing School.
Both students and faculty met to review the program's policies and procedures. The guest speaker was Dr. William Hendee who addressed students and faculty on the subject of "The Medical Physics Profession and Education of Medical Physicists".
